The museum opened the first gallery on “Electro Technic” for public viewing on 27th July, 1965. Later in the year 1978, National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) an autonomous society was set up under the Dept. of Culture, Government of India. Regional Science Centre at Tirupathi, District Science Centre at Gulbarga, District Science Centre at Tirunelveli operate under this museum.
Sir M Visvesvaraya Museum, Bangalore organizes various activities for the visitors. It conducts Taramandal Show, Science Demonstration Show, Sky Observation Programme, Popular Science Lecture and Commemorative Programme. It also organizes activities for students.
